Gum diseases – Periodontitis
It is about the treatment of gum diseases and especially periodontitis.
This is a chronic condition, which begins as simple gingivitis (inflammation of the gums mainly due to poor oral hygiene).
If not treated at this initial stage, the inflammation progresses deeper affecting the jaw bone where the teeth rest and consequently their mobility.
Treatment includes deep surgical cleaning of the periodontal areas and in very advanced cases the use of grafting materials to regenerate the bone lost due to the inflammation.

Apart from poor oral hygiene, there are diseases or conditions that contribute to periodontal tissue destruction, such as: diabetes mellitus, diseases of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, osteoporosis, taking bisphosphonate drugs, radiation, as well as other systemic conditions (hematopoietic and autoimmune disorders, kidney failure, etc.).
The gums are disturbed when there is resorption of the bone that “supports” the teeth and is called the periodontium.
Various local or systemic (general) causes can create unpleasant situations, the best known of which are swell, bleeding, pyorrhea, malodour, and tooth decay which gradually lead to teeth loss.
In our clinic, modern treatments are available that help to treat such adverse symptoms.
Incipient and moderate periodontitis cases are treated with the use of the laser atraumatically (without gum surgery and suturing), which makes the treatment to a large extent painless and comfortable for the patient.
In cases when periodontitis is at an advanced stage, a combination of classic surgical technique (with or without the addition of graft material) and laser is applied.
These treatments ensure the healthy condition of the periodontal tissues and prolong the life of the teeth.
