Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a significant element of cosmetic dentistry and smile brightness.
Many causes can affect the color of teeth (pigments contained in food, drinks, nicotine, old fillings, age, injuries and necrosis, denervation materials, etc.).
Different whitening techniques (at home and/or in the clinic using LASER and LED lamp) can achieve a very satisfactory result.
Teeth Whitening at the Clinic
Teeth Whitening at the Clinic is performed in 2-3 sessions lasting 45 minutes. The material used contains a high concentration of active elements (37.38% hydrogen peroxide).
After choosing the desired color based on the color chart, the necessary precautions are taken to protect the soft tissues (gums, lips) and the gel is applied to the outer surface of the teeth.
It is then activated with the help of energy emitted by the binary- type laser so that its effectiveness during the short period of 45 minutes is to the maximum.
The same process is repeated during the following sessions.
Whitening at home
At-home whitening is performed over a two-week period with the usage of soft acrylic splints that fit over the surface of the teeth.
The patient himself places the gel with the active ingredient inside the splint and then places it in the mouth.
The concentration of hydrogen peroxide in this case is lower (10, 14, 15%), and depending on its percentage, the number of hours/ day that the splints must remain in the mouth is also determined (2-4 hours depending.
Whitening of a denervated tooth
For this category of teeth, applying the whitening gel to the outer surface is not enough.
The active ingredient must also be inserted in them. This is achieved by opening a hole of a few millimeters on the inner surface of the tooth (upper oral or lingual) where the whitening gel is placed and which must remain there until the next session.
The procedure can be repeated 3-4 times, depending on the result after each session.
Especially in cases of muscle pain in the joint, the use of the latest generation “acqua splint” splints is successfully applied, which gradually restores the normal contractility and expansion of the masticatory muscles during the various movements of the lower jaw.
