Inhalant Intoxication

The use of Nitrous Oxide, also known as inhaled intoxication, is widespread to achieve mild sedation and analgesia during dental procedures.

It is a gaseous mixture consisting of nitrous oxide and oxygen. The patient inhales it through a special nasal mask, and throughout the application, remains awake, but relaxed.

Also known as “laughing gas”, it causes mild euphoria, reduces anxiety and fear, inhibits vomiting reflexes and has a mild analgesic effect, while maintaining communication with the patient.

Its action begins very quickly and completely disappears just as soon after the administration is stopped, while the depth of sedation (intoxication) is adjustable by the doctor. These characteristics make it completely safe – WHEN USED CORRECTLY AND BY A SPECIALIZED DOCTOR – and suitable for children, the disabled and anxious patients in general.

It is a very useful tool in modern dentistry, as it is absolutely indicated for patients with DENTIST FEAR, with STRONG VOMITING REFLEXES, as well as for long-term and/or painful procedures (wisdom tooth extraction, implant placement, graft placement, etc.)

Its use is indicated mainly in children but also in adults who have had previous unpleasant experiences with needles, injections, pain, etc.
