Jaw bone surgical treatments
For all the above cases, the restoration is mostly achieved with mild interventions under local anesthesia and with the use of special grafting materials appropriately processed for these situations (membrane, grafts, growth factors).
The jawbones are resorbed after tooth extractions.
Untimely restoration often leads to heavier or even very heavy resorption of the bone that remains in the jaws (residual alveolar ridge).
Absorption can involve one or more parts of the upper or lower jaw or even the entire jaws.
Also, various diseases of the body can lead to a loss of jaw bone mass such as diabetes mellitus, parathyroid gland problems, osteoporosis, etc.
Finally, during ageing, a corresponding – normal – absorption of the jaw bone may occur.
Interventional surgery – osteoplasty – in the affected bone areas aims to restore the height and mainly the width of the bone mass that was lost, thus creating suitable conditions for the placement of osseointegrated implants or other types of prosthetic restorations.
In our place, a number of specialized surgical procedures are performed, such as those mentioned above, and others such as sinus lift surgery, either with the classical surgical method or – and usually – with an atraumatic intraoral approach of various options.
